Trailer Sailer Yacht Sailing Boat 25 Ft With Trailer

This is a Binks 25 Trailer Sailor. The Binks 25 is a fast comfortable Boat. To the best of my knowledge it was design by David Binks and Bruce Farr. It was the first trailer sailor in South Australia to be rated suitable for off shore sailing. It has a swing lead bulb keel.

The design is unusual in that it has built in foam flotation that will not allow the boat to sink should it become flooded. It weighs less than 1 tonne making it relatively easy to tow. The hydraulic swing bulb keel nests completely inside the hull allowing the boat to float in less than 300mm of water when the keel is retracted. This boat has been unused and left on a mooring for several years. It has been antifouled regularly and was recently taken out of the water with some growth which has been removed but needs further attention. Other than antifouling the boat has received little maintenance in recent years and will require cleaning and some new parts and maintenance. It has a high thrust Yamaha 9.9hp motor which has a low gear ratio and low pitch prop specifically designed as a yacht auxiliary. It also has a facility to generate a 12 volt power source.

The motor has not been started in some time, it does however turn over and I expect with a service it will start and run well. The boat currently doesn’t have a battery. To the best of my knowledge the sails are original. However they have had little use. The mast and rig was replaced approximately 8 years ago with a new Goldspar mast section and new Stainless standing rigging.

The sails have never been raised since the new mast was installed. The hull is sound and water tight and there are no leaks in the cabin. The dual wheel Trailer is unregistered. The tires are good and have hardly any wear. The trailer weighs approximately 500 kgs.

The all up towing weight is approximately 1500 kgs. The trailer needs maintenance on the lights, a new jockey wheel, and the breaks need work. It appears structurally sound and the boat was towed on the trailor in the last few weeks to its current location by a “4 cylinder” Toyota Prado. The hydraulic pump for the keel has a frozen reversing switch/valve. That will need some machining and repair, or the pump can be replaced.

The main hydraulic ram appears functional. This boat has been a great family boat. With some cleaning and additional maintenance work it will again be a great boat for your enjoyment.
