Sailing Dinghy

Due to a back operation, I have to sell my beloved sailing dinghy.I built this from Puffin 11'6" dinghy design plans that came with templates of Okoume wood from Gabon Africa. This a very pretty wood used in boat building because of its durability and appearance. The transom and seats are Australian red wood (again) because of its beautiful grain finish. The rubbing strips are this wood also. There is polystyrene floatation under all seats.

The mast and spars are spruce because of strength and were turned by a mast builder. The sail is as new from Baracouta sailmakers. Mainsheet, main halyard, spar lashings and bridal are all Spectra fibre, which is massive overkill. All the genuine brass fittings came from Davey and Co. London as they are the only people that still do genuine fittings.

The anchor insignia on side are from brass bottle openers (from China) but I've coated them in epoxy - so far so good. The collapsible anchor is galvanised and the coir rope fenders in the picture are completely useless but look good. The rudder and centreboard are pine with 3 coats of epoxy paint. This boat design does not use brass screws; it is all 2 pot epoxy - from memory we did 6 coats and the finish is as strong if not stronger than fibreglass.Her name is Miss Calculate (as in very smart) NOT Miscalculate (the other) and she sits on a very good trailer with spare tyre.I am still amazed how close she sails to the wind and how she handles a stiff breeze but apart from all that she needs to go to someone who can look after her with a varnish brush.
