Historic 40 foot timber Sydney Harbour tug boat "Van". Due to the closure of a heritage organisation and a move overseas this historically significant Halvorsen built tug is looking for a new custodian. "Van" is the last remaining member of her class and is one of the first diesel tugs to enter service on Sydney Harbour in the 1930's . She is still operational and registered with AMSA as a working boat. She has an absolutely beautiful Gardner 6L3 diesel main engine in excellent health coupled to a large mechanical 3UC gearbox and can be taken for a cruise today.
In addition to 2 automatic 24 volt bilge pumps she has a working engine driven bilge pump/deckwash pump and a hydraulic PTO pump driving a very strong winch on the aft deck, suitable for lifting moorings. "Van" is a strong boat, but will need to be slipped in the near future to attend to the usual antifouling as well as some caulking, puttying and paint above the waterline, where she has suffered from sitting on a wharf for a number of years with dark paint and strong sun on one side. She doesnt take water other than rain water when on her mooring, but does take a little when under way, as you might expect from a nearly 90 year old! Currently residing on a commercial mooring near Kissing Point on Sydney's Parramata river, the new owner will have to arrange their own mooring or liase with the mooring owner to continue the mooring arrangement within 30 days of ownership transfer. We have plenty more photographs and details available for serious buyers, the images shown were taken today and honestly show her current state.
