LOKATE is a Ganley 44' bluewater cruising yacht built in Wellington, New Zealand and was launched in 1990. The yacht is a cutter rigged sloop constructed from steel, soft chined, and includes a stainless steel cockpit. Principal dimensions are: Length overall 44’ 13.4 metres Length on deck 42’ 12.8 metres Beam 12’ 1” 3.7 metres Draft 6’ 6” 2.0 metres The yacht is registered on the Australian Ships Register (858713) and as such can be used to cruise worldwide. This yacht has an extensive cruising history in the Pacific and the previous owner completed several circumnavigations of NZ. The home port is now Melbourne (RMYS). LOKATE is a strongly built and rigged vessel and includes a watertight cabin entry which improves the seaworthiness and security of the yacht. All the stainless steel standing rigging is oversized for added durability and safety. The cabin features accommodation for 5 to 6 and includes an extensive array of live-aboard conveniences for extended cruising.
The cabin interior is finished in NZ Rimu and Oak and stainless steel hatches and fittings are specified in common with all Dennis Ganley designs. General Comments The vessel is located at Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron Marina in St Kilda and can be viewed by arrangement. The current pen is available for long term ccupancy should the new owner wish to leave the boat at St Kilda and assistance can be provided should you wish to join the yacht club which requires nomination for prospective members by a current member. RMYS a friendly club with a long history and the pen fees are very reasonable compared to Sandy, Brighton or the Docklands. Having a boat at RMYS is the like having your own waterfront apartment at St.Kilda with great access to the city and the restaurants along Fitzroy street. We have owned the boat for 11 years and sailed it back from Keri Keri in the Bay of Islands NZ via Lord Howe Island but have only had time for occasional bay sailing since.
Living on a farm in Central Victoria means we do not have the opportunity to use the boat as we once did so we have decided to put LOKATE on the market. The boat was originally called Tregillis II but we renamed it LOKATE when we registered it on the national ships register. The new name is a combination of our kids names Lockie and Katie. They spent many hours aboard as we explored Port Phillip Bay. Please Note: There are some issues that will need to be fixed.
The hull is well overdue for a clean and re-antifoul and will need a repaint both below and above the water line. New deck tied anodes will be due soon and I have noticed an area of localised rust on the stern (near the swim platform) which will need attending to. These rust spots appear to be associated with the stainless steel fixings (connected to a brace for the swim platform) which has caused some galvanic rusting where they touch the hull. The platform will need to come off and be remounted with insulated washers and grommets to isolate the stainless steel platform from the hull. This job will have to be done in the boat yard obviously.
Other rust spots on the deck and the hull will need wire brushing and repainting which is normal for a steel hulled vessel. (We specifically wanted a steel boat for cruising as steel boats are stronger than glass boats and should you ground it or worse they tend to cope better than plastic boats. Something to think about if you want to cruise anywhere near coral reefs.) The Ford diesel engine will need some mechanical attention also as it refuses to start. It turns over but not fast enough to fire and will need a mechanic or auto electrician to get it running. I have tried several times to get it going but I'm no diesel mechanic so a tradesman will be needed to sort out the problem.
It is fair to say that the above issues will need to be dealt with (and a good general tidy up will be needed ) prior to any open water cruising however when completed the boat will be capable of extended cruising to any destination you may wish to choose. Some of the deck lines have stiffened due to lack of use. These ropes will likely free up with use although some may need to be replaced. A copy of the last survey report (31/7/2013) is available as are many photographs. Included in the sale is our on-board library of boating books including two French/English phrase books that the previous owner used whilst cruising French Polynesia.
The boat has been to Tonga several times as well as the delivery trip across the Tasman when we purchased her in 2007. If you are after a very well equipped vessel and have the time and aptitude to work on the issues noted above, and have a dream of cruising the pacific or beyond, then this boat may be just the ticket. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have and the boat can be viewed at RMYS St.Kilda by arrangement. I have a PDF document including numerous addittional photographs the Registration Certificate and associated documentation which I am happy to email to you. I'm sure you'll be aware of the cost of marine equipment and electronic navigation gear so this auction represents an real opportunity for the winning bidder.
This boat will be sold and will have a new owner in one week's time as this is a no reserve auction starting at $1.00 Good Luck John Marshall phone LOKATE is advertised elsewhere so may be withdrawn from sale if sold privately. If you wish to discuss please call me. Payment Arrangements Bank deposit preferred payment method or Paypal is accepted if you're prepared to pay the Paypal fees. Please contact me after the auction and pay a 10 % deposit within 24 hours after the auction finishes. The balance to be paid within 7 days after the auction finishes.
Once the final payment clears a receipt will be issued and the yacht's registration can be transferred. On 03-Jun-18 at 17:19:03 AEST, seller added the following information: A number of people inspected LOKATE yesterday (2/6/2018) and we tried to start the engine several times. The engine turned over but refused to start. Several people have asked for photographs of the rust spots on the deck and below the swim platform where the stainless steel frame has rubbed on the hull. I have uploaded photos onto a seperate auction page calle "LOKATE additional photos". Search for locate to find the new page.
Please consider the above defects when bidding. The boat is being sold as-is where-is at the RMYS marina in St Kilda, Victoria and the new owner will have to make arrangements to either move the boat or pay the marina fees as a visitor or apply to become a member of the club and lease a pen. RMYS may be contacted on 03 95340277. Good luck bidding.
