For Sale: Dragon class keel boat with sails on launching trolley: Sailed regularly for twilight racing, dry sailed from Rushcutter Bay. Would not be competitive for class racing but is great for fleet racing and even none spinnaker as its 30' long with fully over lapping jib. Comfortably sailed by three but four also works. Very simple to secure a chilli bin to the centre console for drinks! The long keel and keel hung rudder make for a classic relaxing sail with surprising speed all things considered.
A comfortable sail and relatively dry with the cockpit comings which are teak capped. The tiller is varnished laminated timber with a tiller extension. Its actually a great boat for learners to start racing as the systems Easy to sail with underdeck furling for the jib and flexi strut holding the boom up. The anodised alloy rig is held up by a back stay but with additional runners for forestay tension. Strong stainless steel winches with under deck handles make for easy sail handling even when windy.
Two jib winches and two smaller spinnaker units. The spinnaker launches from bow chute with sliding cover. A little bit of practice and technique makes for very fast launches and drops. The alloy pole is strong and used for both spinnaker and poling out the jib. Sail controls are numerous (you wont need to add any!) and will keep tweakers occupied but can just as easily be left alone if you prefer.
The hull was reworked in the mid 90's when the boat was last raced competitively in class. Top side paint still polishes up but has numerous marks. Underwater is good and has just had the iron keel to hull seem repaired. The boat used to live in the water and hence is antifouled. New white International Trilux antifoul has just been applied, which does not discolour.
The rudder has just been removed and refitted. The hull has a few paint bubbles when inspected closely but looks fine in the water. She does not leak when left in the water and benefits from a drain bung for use ashore. Very little maintenance is required. The trolley is galvanised steel and heavily built on three car wheels with a little ladder on one side and some rust but is still good.
I can manoeuvre and launch the boat on my own but its easier with two. Two lifting eyes are connected to the keel and joined by heavy webbing straps with a long modern lifting strop looped through which keeps the crane hook away from the boat. Sails included are: 1 x Good race jib (Dacron/Spectra)1 x strong jib (Dacron)1 x strong main (Dacron)1 x usable sky blue spinnaker (rip stop nylon) All sheets and lines are in good condition, some are only a year old. All deck equipment is in good working order. The mast base wheels for vang and cunningham work very well.
The lift up bow towing bollard (pictured raised) is very strong and useful for anchoring. Two strong Plastimo bilge pumps are operated from on deck and have good large bore plumbing. I had planned to remove the mainsheet travellor, and replace it with a rope bridle, as vang sheeting works very well. At some point it would be advisable to refinish the bottom of the keel. A replacement forward floor board would be good as the edges of the current one are worn.
The cover is complete but near the end of its life with a couple of repairable rips caused by age. She is an inexpensive tough boat to enjoy and not worry to much about. The boat can stay on the hard stand for a month, at your cost, if required, and possibly longer by negotiation. The anchor in the blue bag is NOT included in the sale. Cash on collection if you prefer rather than Paypal.
