Product Type: Motorboats
The Honda Benly CA92 (the 150cc is the CA95) is the iconic bike that made Honda famous. Also called the Baby Dream as it resembles and is the small cousin to the C72 and C77 Dream. This innovative twin motorbike changed the world in terms of practical, reliable motorcycling and created a first in 4 stroke motor at the time when most smaller bikes were 2 stroke. Frame Number C92E 5004212 engine number C92E 5002646 identifying the bike as a 1965. This is consistent with the later model side covers with these rubber knee pads.
These bikes were made from 1959 to 1965. Bike comes with its original South Australian licence disc dated 1976. Its original rego plate number was S.A J454. Call me on phone. Please don't just buy it now.
If you're locked down, this is an ideal and rewarding project, not too hard to get on the road but with enough things to do for it to be fun. Great project bike that comes with hundreds of dollars of new parts to complete including a replacement exhaust system. Project bikes like this are now extremely rare and hard to come by. This bike is originally from South Australia and a very dry climate so it is much better condition than a coastal bike full of rust. This bike is extremely solid and although it is not a professional job, someone in the past has done us a favour painting over the whole bike and engine, preserving it.
It has also prevented aluminium oxidation to the motor etc. Bike is extremely solid, no rust surprises, just expected patina and wear and tear. No it is not running, it is a good solid classic project bike. I am not completing it because I came across a CB92 which has taken my focus off this bike which I was going to restore. The previous owner and then myself spent lots of effort finding missing items or buying new.
Bike is 97% complete, the only things missing I can see are a carb and the carb covers and a couple of other small easy to find things. It has all the impossible to find bits like ignition switch and key, starter motor, all electrical anciliaries like coil, rectifier, full original wiring harness, complete rear light, original speedo, both correct switches left and right, all original indicator set up, stop light pull switch. Original correct throttle grip set up, super expensive to find if you don't have it fitted. One of the main sell points and unique at the time was an electric starter motor. This has the whole set up and starter motor, the only thing I can see missing is a small trim piece on the side of the starter easy to get and common to all Benlys.
I bought the matching key recently. It is NOS Honda marked 1960's factory cut to the same number on the ignition and steering locks. It also has a good unrusted tank with no dents, excellent cap, good left and right hand chrome covers, original badges in good shape, the correct air filter cover under the side cover, correct battery cage. It has the correct handlebars, brake and clutch lever set up etc. It also has a complete long seat, almost always missing on projects which would cost hundreds to import a repro.
This seat is original. The main stand is bent and missing the push down lever. I bought a complete replacement from the USA recently which cost me over $200 landed. I also bought the missing foot peg bar and also separately the side stand and spring which cost another $200 landed. The new buyer has very little to have to find and can focus on getting it back on the road.
It has a full reproduction chain guard, brand new. These are now very hard to get into Australia due to Covid. It has a brand new aftermarket reproduction exhaust system worth at least $500 with post and now very hard to import. Engine is complete with all correct covers etc. I have never started it but the engine kicks over on the kick starter as it should.
In my experience these engines are bullet proof and it is easy and not expensive to replace rings and or pistons should you need to. Perfect lower priced project during the long Covid. Perfect father and son project. These bikes you will always get your money back or a 20% increase in value year on year. Like Sydney property.
Bike is big enough to carry two, $100 a year Historic Rego or full rego if you choose. Perfect low worry club bike without a huge investment of an iconic and most collectable brand. A great way to get into classic bikes without losing your shirt. I am just north of the Harbour Bridge, easy pick up for your freight guy or yourself. No remote country pick up costing up to $500 extra this bike is on a route easy to access both up to QLD or Vic or to anywhere in NSW.
Bike is sold as is, see the pics. I have just laid the mufflers in the approximate position to show.
